From the time Harriet was little, she loved books and spent her time writing poetry, plays, and speeches. No surprise that she became a writer. The situation in the country weighed heavy on her mind. So she wrote the story Uncle Tom’s Cabin to make people aware of how enslaved Black people were treated in the southern states. President Lincoln himself credited her writing as one of the reasons for the American Civil War that led to the end of slavery.
