The fertile land of California was ideal for crops to grow—and workers were needed to harvest them. Cesar Chavez and his family were farmworkers, and after living through harsh conditions, he decided to help protect the rights of Mexican Americans and all farm workers. He started the National Farm Workers Association, and his passion for fairness has become a symbol of hope. He proved that when many people stand together, no matter how poor or powerless, their voices can be heard.
