Gandhi grew up in India and became a lawyer. He moved to South Africa where he developed a passion to fight against the unfair treatment of the Indian people there. But he did not fight with weapons. He used nonviolence (doing no harm to others), noncooperation (peacefully disobeying unfair laws), and nonpossession (living a simple life). He brought this philosophy back to India and used these tools to bring independence to the country and valuable lessons of peace to the world.
